Applying for a garage or garage plot

To be eligible to apply for a garage/plot, you must be a permanent resident within Bolsover District.

To apply you will need to complete an application form, this can be found on the Self Service (opens in anew window) portal.

When you apply, we will add your name to the waiting list for that site - waiting lists are managed on a first come, first served basis and priority is given to existing council tenants.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over. If you are not a council tenant, VAT is payable on the garage rent.

What is the difference between a Garage and a Garage Plot

Garages - The garages and land are owned by us and we are responsible for the maintenance of them.

Garage Plot - Garage plot sites are owned by us. The garage plot tenant pays a yearly rental for use of the allocated plot. Tenants are responsible for providing and maintaining their own garage building.

Ending a garage or garage plot tenancy

Garage - The tenancy maybe terminated by either party with one weeks’ notice. The garage must be left in a good condition and be empty of all personal belongings at the end of the tenancy. If garage keys are not returned on the date they are due, rent will continue to be charged to you until the keys are received.

Garage Plot - The tenancy maybe terminated by either party with one calendar months notice. The garage and all personal belongings must be removed by the tenant at the end of the tenancy, failure to do so will result in a recharge for the cost of demolition.
