This practical workshop starts with making the traditional 3 straw plait and from there you will work you way up toward making a Welsh fan. These are traditional Welsh house blessing, given as a gift to promote good fortune in the house where it hung.

Your tutor, Angela Riley, has worked in the heritage and cultural sector throughout her life. Angela was introduced to the art of corn dolly making some 25 years ago whilst working at Church Farm Museum, Skegness and is now one of a very small number of straw plaiting tutors in the UK. Since then, she has developed and expanded the range of corn dollies she makes, including traditional variants which originated in South America, North Africa and Eastern Europe. Today, Angela works across Lincolnshire and the East Midlands and is in high demand to deliver workshops at heritage venues and events in our region.
