Shirebrook butterflies need you

We all know the importance of bees and how they help pollinate flowers, fruit and vegetables.

But did you know butterflies are just as important?

The Big Butterfly Count is an annual UK-wide survey, aimed at helping us assess the health of our environment simply by counting the amount and type of butterflies - and some day-flying moths.

And to help nurture the butterflies at a local level, a small team of volunteers in Shirebrook are doing their bit to help preserve the insects as well. Once a week they count the insects around the town’s Brook Park. It's good fun, a nice walk, gets you out in the fresh air and you get to learn about these beautiful creatures.

The group is looking for more volunteers to help capture this important information and Willy Lane told Bolsover TV about the project and how people can get involved.
