We have decided to prepare a Growth Plan for Shirebrook. The Growth Plan will be a dedicated plan for Shirebrook, setting out plans for how the town could grow and prosper over the next five years and beyond. It will cover issues such as living and working in Shirebrook, and will particularly focus on the town centre and the Market Place and environmental issues.
As we have an up-to-date Local Plan which doesn’t need to be reviewed for several years, the Shirebrook Growth Plan will be a non-statutory planning document that will sit on top of the Local Plan for Bolsover District. It is intended that the Growth Plan will be adopted as a material consideration in our planning processes.
What happened previously?
The initial consultation exercise ran throughout March and the Shirebrook Growth Plan newsletter issue 1 summarises the feedback we received.
What’s happening now?
The second stage consultation exercise runs from Tuesday 30 August to Friday 30 September and will focus on masterplanning proposals.
This stage will see the launch of a new, innovative form of public consultation that is designed to help you to imagine your ideal growth proposals for Shirebrook. Traditionally decisions about growth and plans for growth are made by professionals such as developers, architects, planners and economists, and the people who live in a place are invited to comment at the final stages of the proposals.
We think it would be better if the people who lived in a place had the chance to have a say earlier, imagine what growth could look like, and tell them what they think should be included. And this is why we, using funding from the Government’s PropTech Engagement Fund, has launched the new PlaceBuilder masterplanning tool and it is now live for you to log-on and have a play.
We want to showcase the best and most interesting entries and we will choose two of these and transform them into a 3D model that we can present back to the community. We intend to do this during October and will hold a community event in the Market Place with a Virtual Reality pod where the public will be invited to come and see and interact with the ideas.
In addition, we will also be providing a £500 community prize that will be awarded to a local community group. So when you’ve submitted your masterplan you’ll be asked to nominate your preferred local community group and the group with the most nominations will be awarded the £500 community prize.
In addition to the online PlaceBuilder masterplanning tool, council officers will be available to talk about the consultation proposals at a public drop in session on Wednesday 21 September at the Shirebrook Leisure Centre between 4-7pm.
Officers will also be available at the Shirebrook Contact Centre on Thursday 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 September between 2-5pm for people to drop-in and ask questions.
The timetable for the preparation of the Shirebrook Growth Plan is as follows:

- September 2022 – Second stage consultation (focussing on masterplanning proposals)
