Single equality scheme review

We have produced a Draft Equality Plan and Objectives for 2023-2027 which outlines our approach to equalities, our workforce profile and our equality objectives.

We have also produced our second annual review of the Single Equality Scheme review 2019-23. This review document reflects the key achievements which we fulfilled in the past year. These include:

  • Continuing the Bolsover Partnership’s flagship project, Raising Aspirations; a responsive approach to young people (in Years 6 to 11) identified as not being able to reach their potential for a variety of factors. This project has provided bespoke support addressing the individual needs of 763 beneficiaries during 2021
  • Creating a Community Advisor role responsible for attending events throughout the District, sharing relevant information about how to access services while also promoting digital awareness and online services available
  • Offering financial assistance in the form of a Rural Hardship Fund where Bolsover District helped promote accessibility to the Rural Action Derbyshire Fund providing one-off small grants of up £250 to people in rural areas who were suffering with hardship during the Covid-19 pandemic to improve the health and wellbeing of the rural community
  • Implementing a video relay system to provide deaf customers’ access to a British Sign Language interpreter at our Contact Centres.

Background information
The scheme sets out how we meet our equality duties under the Equality Act 2010 and measures and actions on how we address and improve on the requirements.

Under the Act, we are required to have due regard to in consideration of the following duties:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act.
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

We are also required to set equality objectives. Our equality objectives for 2019-2023 are set as:

  1. Everyone can access our services, facilities and information
  2. Decision making and services take into account the needs of residents and communities
  3. Discrimination, harassment and hate crime is not tolerated
