Bolsover District Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

A-Z List of Services / Menu (Home page)
The A-Z (List of our services) menu on the home page should be navigable using the 'Tab' key and 'Enter' which should take you to the first item in the sub-category.
Alternatively there is a more accessible version on our A-Z List of Services page. The link to this can be found on the footer of every page on our website.
How accessible this website is
This website is managed and operated by Bolsover District Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- view most of our website using acceptable levels of colour contrast
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand. AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- Some of our older PDF and Word documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software. Some of our PDFs and Word documents however, are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents.
- Documents provided to us by third parties e.g. Planning Inspector, consultation responses, letters etc. will not all be accessible. We have put measures in place to request that third parties provide data in an accessible format and will be converting any that are not provided in an accessible format, where possible, from September 2020 onwards.
- Some parts of our website link to or use content provided by other websites (or API's) and these may not always accessible as our site. Examples include:
- Online Mapping is difficult to navigate using just a keyboard, is not fully accessible to screen reader software, and cannot be used effectively on small-screen devices.
- YouTube videos
- Ordnance survey maps
- Some online forms which are provided by third party suppliers
- Webchat - Our online webchat is provided by a third party and therefore may not be fully accessible.
- On pages where we use graphs and charts (e.g. election results), some of these may not be fully accessible, and difficult to navigate using a keyboard.
- Live streamed video (e.g. online Zoom meetings) - We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
Accessibility on our self-service website
- Some form controls are missing a ‘label’ tag. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content), 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships), 3.3.2 (Labels or Instructions), and 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value).
- Multi-step form fields use the same ID more than once which may miscommunicate information about that field. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.1 (Parsing)
- Form pages control scaling which affects a user’s ability to enlarge text. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.1 (Resize text)The majority of our Self Service pages are accessible however some of our interactive forms are difficult to navigate using a keyboard or screen reader because information about them is not conveyed fully, or may be ambiguous;

We have a text relay service for people who are D/deaf, hearing impaired or have a speech impediment. Our offices have audio induction loops, or if you contact us before your visit we can arrange a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter.
