In 2023 over half a million people took part in the Big Garden Birdwatch, counting a whopping 9.1 million birds!

It is the world’s largest garden wildlife survey and every year, hundreds of thousands of nature lovers take part, helping to build a picture of how garden birds are faring.

This year’s event is due to take place from 26 to 28 January and Bolsover TV (opens in a new window) asked local wildlife enthusiast, Ian Johnson who has created the 'Garden next to the Plant' in Whitwell why it was so important people got involved.
