Creswell residents can plan their own future through new technology
Residents in Creswell are being given the opportunity to imagine how any additional growth in their village could look via an exciting and innovative new digital planning tool.
As part of our latest consultation on the Creswell Growth Plan, we have made available the new masterplanning feature via The Future Fox's PlaceBuilder platform which is specifically designed to encourage people living and working in Creswell let the Council know how they think growth proposals could be shaped.
Traditionally decisions about growth and plans for growth are made by professionals such as developers, architects, planners and economists, and the people who live in a place are invited to comment at the final stages of the proposals. But we want to try something different during the masterplanning consultation that has been launched and will run until Monday 13 February 2023.
Deputy Leader of the Council and local councillor for Creswell, Duncan McGregor, said, “Planning for the future of our communities is at the heart of what we do at the council. The opportunity to use technology to involve our communities in those decisions is a new and exciting way to achieve this.
“New homes and jobs come hand in hand with bringing investment and new services and facilities to our communities. This tool will enable the people of Creswell to contribute their ideas to how their community could grow in the future. This will increase our understanding as a Council of what the community needs. Planning for growth is a long process and I want to give the people who live and work in Creswell the chance to have their say early on in this process.
“So, I would urge residents of Creswell to take advantage of this opportunity and have your say on how you would like the village to look in the future.”
This masterplanning tool enables people to understand how growth is funded. For example if people want leisure facilities or community facilities then they must generate money through housing or offices to present a balanced budget. The way that this can be achieved can take many forms and the tool gives people the opportunity to come up with ideas.
The Masterplanning Consultation Exercise on the Creswell Growth Plan runs from Thursday 12 January to Monday 13 February 2023 and responses should be made through the PlaceBuilder masterplanning tool where possible. A public drop-in session will be held on Wednesday 1 February 2023 at The Events Centre, Elmton Road, Creswell between 4pm and 7pm.
Beyond this, further consultation will be undertaken on the Creswell Growth Plan later in the year.
The PlaceBuilder masterplanning tool has been developed by The Future Fox, a technology company with a social mission to accelerate the development of smart, sustainable and people-focussed places.
The Council is funding these new styles of consultation by using grants from the Department for Levelling Up, Homes and Communities’ PropTech Engagement Fund. This Fund is aimed at supporting the widespread adoption of digital citizen engagement tools and services within the planning process and we have been selected as one of the national pilot areas.
