Council Leader welcomes First Homes Scheme launch in Shirebrook

Council Leader, Steve Fritchley welcomed Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick to Shirebrook on Friday 4 June as the First Homes scheme was launched in the town.

12 properties on the Keepmoat development in the town will be available to local and key workers who are first time buyers at a 30% discount.

The scheme, will complement the Council’s £36 million Bolsover Homes, which will see up to 400 new council homes built over the next few years.

The discounted houses will be available to first-time buyers for almost a third off compared with the market price and will provide a route for first time buyers to stay in their local area.

Council Leader, Steve Fritchley said, ““It is very important for Bolsover District that we are at the forefront of any initiatives and projects that benefit our residents.

“Having built many new council homes over the recent past we intend to add to that total with four hundred plus more over the next few years and this new government initiative will only serve to enhance our ambition.

“There is no reason now why this pilot scheme cannot be extended to other housebuilders to give local people and key workers the necessary support to start their new life benefit.”

A local connection is determined as someone who has lived or worked in Bolsover District and also includes people who need to stay in the District to be close to family or residents and ‘key workers’.
