Green bin collections across Bolsover District will start one collection later than originally planned.
This follows the decision to bring burgundy bin collections back under direct control of the Council, which saved recycling collection staff jobs and will enable us to continue the popular burgundy bin and black bin collections without interruption.
The extra two weeks is necessary for us to bring the vehicles and equipment used by the previous burgundy bin contractor up to our standards and ensure they are roadworthy and safe for use.
This means that the refuse wagons normally used for green bin collections will be utilised to collect burgundy bins for the next couple of weeks.
Green bin collections will now start week commencing 15 March 2021 instead of 1 March for those using calendar A in north of the District and week commencing 22 March instead of 8 March for those using calendar B in the south of the District.
Cabinet Member for Streetscene, Councillor Deborah Watson said, “The Streetscene staff have worked tirelessly to try to ensure a seamless transition of the burgundy bin service from our previous contractor to an in house service.
I am sorry that we need to delay the commencement of our green waste service by one collection this spring, but, I am sure that residents will understand that we much prefer to be certain of running a good quality service with vehicles that are safe and properly fit for purpose.
I would like to thank the staff for their sterling efforts and our residents for their continued commitment to correctly recycling their waste and bearing with us during this brief period of change”
