It is estimated that around 1.75m tonnes of clothing and textile waste is created in the UK each year and around 1.2m tonnes of it ends up in landfill. But a woman from Bolsover is on a mission to do her bit and reduce this waste.
Tania Holmes has a real passion for textiles and recycling and she not only wants to reduce this appalling amount of waste, but also our carbon footprint as well. So, after being made redundant during the Pandemic, she decided to turn this passion into a business and set up her own on-line curtain and fabric shop.
Tania transforms unwanted fabric into beautiful textiles, curtains or fabrics for any potential would-be fellow makers. The process starts with the fabric being washed and treated to get rid of any stains and damage and then the material is re-sized and re-made ready for re-sale.
From cushion covers to curtains, commissions for caravans to crochet work and vintage textiles to velvets, Tania can take on a whole range of work. And with the on-line shop stocking a huge range of hand-picked beautiful preloved textiles, perfect for your home or to use for craft projects, there is no shortage of fabric available - whatever the job.
Bolsover TV visited Tania to see how she has turned her passion into a business. You can watch the interview on our Vimeo channel.
