Digital Connect scheme launched

It is estimated 11.7 million, some 22 per cent of people in the UK, are without the digital skills needed for everyday life.

Digital access and skills are essential to enabling people to fully participate in an increasingly digital society. So, we have set up a scheme in partnership with Citizens Advice Mid Mercia, to help improve people’s confidence about getting online and supporting them to become more digital savvy.

Called Digital Connect, the scheme aims to help improve local residents’ digital skills from how to use a computer or tablet to accessing information and guidance such as NHS, local councils and comparison sites.

The scheme is open to anyone and can support you with:

  • Internet safety – being safe online
  • Building your skill base to support future opportunities/needs
  • How to use a computer/tablet/mobile
  • Use of Email, online Banking and online Shopping
  • Accessing services online such as booking appointments, ordering prescriptions and virtual appointments
  • Accessing information and guidance such as NHS, GOV.UK, comparison sites, local Council and local news
  • Using social media to interact with friends and family online

The scheme also provides a free tablet loaning service, so you can have access to the resources you need.

Bolsover TV interviewed Martyn Staley about the scheme and you can see the interview on our Vimeo channel.
