The Cottage Kitties need you!

The Cottage Kitties in Shirebrook is a cat rescue with a difference. The ethos behind the sanctuary isn’t to rescue unwanted cats and rehome them, it is to take in sick and abandoned cats and provide them with palliative care.

Founder of The Cottage Kitties, Paulette Griffin, has had her own health problems. Surviving a brain tumour gave her a fresh perspective and she fell into rescue thanks to finding a cat in need at her home.

Fast forward a few years and Paulette’s charity now cares for 17 cats based at her home in Shirebrook, with many of them requiring medication and treatment for their conditions.

Cottage Kitties is an exempt charity with a team of professionally skilled people, and it is growing all the time. The charity has a dedicated following and support group who help out by giving their time and by donating equipment and food to Paulette and her team.

Paulette said: “I didn’t intend to get into rescue. But Miles was living in my garden for quite some time and when he started eating the chicken feed it was clear he had been abandoned.

“We adopted him and since then we haven’t stopped. After losing one of my cats to poor care at a vets practice I am motivated to care for cats who have illnesses or issues no one else will bother with. We have a no kill policy and all our cats are cared for until they reach the end of their lives.”

As well as rescuing and caring for cats, Cottage Kitties also works to provide Forever Foster homes, where cats are looked after in a home, whilst still being cared for remotely by Cottage Kitties.

Foster carers are checked for suitability by a member of the team before being allowed to care for a cat. For those unable to lend this support, it is also possible to sponsor a cat. Your money would go towards the care and comfort of your chosen cat, paying for vets bills, food and medicine.

The Cottage Kitties is a dedicated group of people who work to provide palliative care for cats of all ages. If you want to help, or you have a cat in need, please contact them via their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TheCottageKitties.co.uk/

Any donations would be gratefully received as would applications to provide foster homes. Volunteers are welcomed to help out, with help currently needed in the mornings.
