Sex Establishments regulation

We have adopted legislation which allows local authorities to regulate Sex Establishments.

The power is an adoptive one which means local authorities can choose whether or not they adopt it.

Whilst there aren’t any known Sex Establishments within Bolsover District, this is a power that is commonly adopted by local authorities across the country; and it would give us more power to regulate Sex Establishments should they appear within the District. It also establishes procedures which give members of the public the opportunity to have their say should someone wish to establish a Sex Establishment.

Our power to regulate Sex Establishments is currently limited to those under planning and alcohol licensing legislation.

A report was agreed at a Licensing Committee to adopt the legislation and an appropriate policy was necessary but requested consultation take place on the issue. Following a 13-week consultation the responses were fed back to the Licensing Committee who then made a recommendation to Council that the legislation and the draft policy be adopted. Council adopted this legislation and policy on Wednesday 2 February 2022
