A trophy dedicated to the memory of a local legend in Doe Lea and Glapwell, Brian Holland was won for the first time by Chesterfield Juniors in a penalty shootout at Glapwell Football Club.
The tournament attracted over 65 teams from the local area over the past three weeks and it is propsoed to become an annual tournament in memory of Brian.
Brian was a stalwart in the area and took huge pride in keeping the local football pitches up to scratch and encouraging people to play football, something which his friend and groundsman at Glapwell Football club Phil Davis remembers.
Phil said, "He helped me on a few occassions with the pitch. We used to do charity football games together and raised quite a lot of money and he did a lot for local people. He was a really good friend and would do anything for you. He was a football lad and loved the game and always encouraged youngsters to play and joined in. He would be as proud as punch and and he is sadly missed."
Jamie Wajs, Chair of Glapwell Football Club said, "He was a big charachter to have around a football club and one thing he said to me was to make sure we go out there and grow the club. so, we thought it was only fitting to present a trophy on the final day of the tournament in memory of Brian in what will become an annual tournament."
