Did you know that it is estimated that an average of 35.8 million plastic bottles are used EVERY DAY in the UK, but only 19.8 million of those get recycled? This means there are on average 16 million plastic bottles a day not making their way into the recycling bin.
We collect plastic bottles for recycling through our burgundy bin scheme, so why are so many not being recycled?
Pledge2Recycle Plastics, part of the national plastics charity RECOUP, have designed a Recycling Survey asking people to share more information about their recycling habits. The survey has been designed to take only a few minutes to complete and is easy to share on to help build a nationwide picture of the items that cause the most confusion when it comes to recycling. Pledge2Recycle Plastics will then work with the plastics industry, Local Authorities and other parties to examine what changes are needed to increase the amount of plastic being recycled.
By recycling what we can, whenever we can we reduce our reliance on using virgin material. This helps to keep valuable resources in the loop and reduce the environmental impact.
