Our managers will not make any assumptions about you or your skills, knowledge and abilities, so please include everything you feel is relevant to the role you are applying for on your form. You must demonstrate on your application form how you meet all the essential criteria on the person specification to be shortlisted for interview.

If you're submitting an offline application, we recommend you take a copy of your application before you submit it. Please ensure your application is received by the closing date.

Other ways to apply
There are still ways to apply if you're unable to do so online. You can complete a Word version of our online application form. This form can be printed out, completed by you and then sent by post to: HR & OD Team, BDC, The Arc, High Street, Clowne, S43 4JY. Or completed as a Word document and email it to us.

Referees
Please check your referees are happy to support your application before you apply and provide an email address for your referees wherever possible.

CVs
We do not accept CVs, the Council require a fully completed application form to ensure a fair and equal assessment of candidates.

Health questionnaire
If you're successful at interview, you will be asked to complete a confidential medical questionnaire. This form is sent directly to our Occupational Health provider who assess any relevant health matters and any adjustments that may be need to be considered to enable you to perform the job role.

Right to work in the UK
The Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act requires the Council to check your documents to establish your eligibility to work in the UK. The Council ask all candidates to bring proof of identification and their right to work to their interview. If you are successful at interview, copies of this documentation will be kept on your personal file.

Disclosure of criminal records
Jobs which have access to children or vulnerable adults require the post holder to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If you've anything to declare, you should inform the recruiting manager or the HR & OD Manager who will discuss this with you. A senior manager will be required to make the final decision on whether the appointment can go ahead. All cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.

If you are the successful candidate for one of our jobs, you will be asked to provide details of any criminal convictions or investigations which involve you. The Council only take these into account if they are considered relevant to the job role. Having a criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from obtaining a job at the Council. A record of the decision making process will be held on your personal file and treated in the strictest confidence.

If successfully appointed to a Job
Applying for a job can sometimes be a long process and if you are the successful candidate, the Council is keen to enable you to take up your post as soon as possible.
