Good causes invited to benefit from new Community Lottery

Representatives from good causes across Bolsover District are being encouraged to sign up to benefit from our new Community Lottery Scheme.

We are launching the Bolsover District Community Lottery Scheme in May 2021 and local good causes such as community and voluntary groups, charities and sports clubs could benefit. 60p from every £1 ticket sold will go towards local good causes, compared to just 28p in the pound for the National Lottery.

Good causes must operate in, or benefit the communities of Bolsover District and are being invited to attend an online briefing on Monday 1 March at 10.30am to find out more. They can register at Eventbrite.

Cabinet Member for Partnerships and Transformation, Councillor Mary Dooley encouraged group leaders and organisations to sign up and benefit from the scheme.

“We are really excited about this new lottery scheme. Not only will it help local organisations and charities but will support projects that will benefit the communities of Bolsover District.

“We know how tough it has been for local groups and charities over the past year and we want to do our bit in helping them. So I would urge any community of voluntary organisation to sign up today for our Good Causes launch so you can see how your organisation can benefit.

“There’s no obligation to sign up, but all you have to do is commit to spreading the word about your own lottery page and reach a minimum of at least 20 ticket sales, and you will start to earn money."

Players have a 50 to one chance of winning one of the prizes, which range from the £25,000 jackpot to three extra tickets and the first draw will take place on Saturday 15 May 2021.

A lottery management company, Gatherwell, has been appointed to run the scheme, having already launched similar lotteries elsewhere.

Ben Speare, Gatherwell's managing director said, "We are delighted that Gatherwell has been awarded the opportunity to run the new Bolsover District Community Lottery Scheme. We're looking forward to helping support the District’s local causes in partnership with Bolsover District Council.”
