We designated the PDF icon Old Blackwell Conservation Area (1.07MB) as an area of special architectural and historic interest, the character and appearance of which it is desirable to both preserve and enhance, on 5th July 1978. The boundary of the conservation area has been extended once in April 2010.
It is considered that this special architectural and historic interest is due to the survival of a number of traditional buildings which reflect the agricultural origins of the settlement and the parish church of St Werburgh. There are also a range of other built and natural elements that add to the character and appearance of the conservation area.
We have prepared a Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan (1.22MB) for the area.
The document defines the special character and appearance of the area by assessing the built form and landscape value. It also provides guidance on the implementation of certain saved policies in the Bolsover District Local Plan and formulates management proposals for the preservation and enhancement of the Old Blackwell Conservation Area.
