Postal Vote

Anyone included in the Register of Electors may apply for a postal vote. You do not have to state any reason and the form does not have to be countersigned. On the form you must state the date(s) and type of the election for which you wish to vote by post.

On the form you must give the full address to which your ballot paper should be sent. Postal votes can be sent to an address outside the UK - for example if you are going on holiday - but please remember that it will take time to get there and for you to return it in time for the vote to be counted.

If you know that you will not be able to vote in person, you should apply for a postal vote as soon as an election is announced. You can obtain an application form by telephoning the Elections Team on 01246 242424 or submit an enquiry form and we can send you a form through the post.

Postal ballot papers are normally sent out about a week before polling day, so if you will not be at home around that time you should consider appointing a proxy to vote on your behalf.

If you have applied to vote by post, and your application is accepted, you will receive a postal ballot paper about a week before election day. You must post (or take) this back so that it reaches the Returning Officer, Sherwood Lodge, Bolsover, Derbyshire, S44 6NF  before the close of poll on election day.  Alternatively the postal vote can be handed in at a Polling Station in your ward.
