School term dates

The dates for school terms and holidays are decided by the local authority or the governing body of a school, or by the school itself for independent schools. It is not normally acceptable to take your child out of school for family holidays during term time.

Here are the term dates for the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 academic years.

2010/2011 academic year

  • 6 September 2010 to 22 October 2010 (35 teaching days)
  • 1 November 2010 to 21 December 2010 (37 teaching days)
  • 4 January 2011 to 18 February 2011 (34 teaching days)
  • 28 February 2011 to 15 April 2011 (35 teaching days)
  • 3 May 2011 to 27 May 2011 (19 teaching days)
  • 6 June 2011 to 22 July 2011 (35 teaching days)

Bank Holidays:

  • 27 and 28 December 2010
  • 3 January 2011
  • 22 April 2011 (Good Friday)
  • 25 April 2011 (Easter Monday)
  • 2 May 2011
  • 30 May 2011
  • 29 August 2011

2011/2012 academic year

  • 5 September 2011 to 21 October 2011 (35 days)
  • 31 October 2011 to 20 December 2011 (37 days)
  • 4 January 2012 to 10 February 2012 (28 days)
  • 20 February 2012 to 30 March 2012 (30 days)
  • 16 April 2012 to 1 June 2012 (34 days)
  • 11 June 2012 to 20 July 2012 (30 days)

Bank Holidays:

  • 26 and 27 December 2011
  • 2 January 2012
  • 6 April 2012 (Good Friday)
  • 9 April 2012 (Easter Monday)
  • 7 May 2012
  • 4 June 2012 (Spring Bank Holiday)
  • 5 June 2012 (additional bank holiday for the Queens' Diamond Jubilee)
