Sustainability Appraisal of the Core Strategy and Site Allocations Development Plan Documents

The new planning system places great emphasis on the need to secure sustainable development. This means policies should be developed that consider the long term environmental, social and economic impacts of any potential development in the district. Sustainability Appraisals are the tool for achieving this, and all development plan documents contained in the Local Development Framework must be assessed by a Sustainability Appraisal.

This page provides details of the Sustainability Appraisal work, including work on the latest version of the Core Strategy, the Core Strategy: Revised Preferred Options.

This page also provides an overview of the Sustainability Appraisal work carried out for the Core Strategy and Site Specific and Area Based Allocations Development Plan Documents.

The Site Specific and Area Based Allocations Development Plan Document was originally intended to be produced in tandem with the Core Strategy Development Plan Document. However, in response to advice form the Planning Officers Society Enterprise Ltd, the Concil has decided to complete the Core Strategy Development Plan Document before continuing work on the Site Allocations Development Plan Document. However, in the interests of completeness all of the Sustainability Appraisals are included below.

March 2006	Further Options Report	Sustainability Appraisal of the Further Options Report (188 kb)	The Further Options Report responded to some of the comments that were made on the Issues & Options Report and was concerned with the scale and distribution of development in the district.
April 2006	Issues & Options Report	Sustainability Appraisal of the Public Consultation Key Findings (April 2006) (141 kb)	The public consultation response to the Issues and Options Report presented a small number of scenarios addressing policy matters which the consultation documents had not fully addressed and which have also been subject to sustainability appraisal.
