The Statement of Community Involvement
The Statement of Community Involvement explains how and when we will involve the local community in the development, preparation and review of all Local Development Documents and planning applications.
The Statement of Community Involvement is the first document in our Local Development Framework to be adopted. We formally adopted it on 24th May 2006, following extensive public consultation and an examination by an independent Planning Inspector.

Since this document was adopted, the Government has issued new guidance on Local Development Frameworks in Planning Policy Statement 12 – creating strong, safe, and prosperous communities through Local Spatial Planning (2008). In addition, the Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) Regulations 2004, which are referred to in the Statement of Community Involvement were amended in 2008 and again in 2009.
The main change involved in the new PPS 12 and amended Regulations is that the requirement under Regulation 26 for pre-submission public participation has been removed.
In relation to the development of the Council’s Core Strategy Development Plan Document, Regulation 26 was complied with before the new guidance and Regulations were issued.
The consultation on the Core Strategy: Revised Preferred Options during April/May 2010 was a non-statutory stage of consultation. That is, it was not required under the Regulations. It was undertaken in line with the aims set out in the Statement of Community Involvement of keeping people informed of progress on document production and encouraging continuous engagement in the development of the document.
