Mason Bennett
Mason Bennett is 15 years old and lives in Langwith with his Mum. He attends Shirebrook Academy and plays for Derby County Football Club (DCFC). He was the clubs Academy's player 2010-11. Mason holds the record as Derby County's youngest ever player, he made his full debut with a start in a defeat at Middlesborough on 22nd October 2011 at the age of 15 years and 99 days. In addition, Mason has been selected and has played for both the England U16's and U17's team.

I have recently returned from Georgia where I was part of the England U17 UEFA Euopean team which played in the Elite Round qualifiers. We beat Ukraine 1-0, lost to Georgia 1-0 and lost to Spain 4-0.
How did you first get involved in Football?
I first started playing Football at my primary school, Whaley Thorns, I was around 10 years old.
What were your reasons for signing for Derby County Football Club?
I was playing for my local team Shirebrook Rangers and was scouted by the club. I then started training with the Academy team and that has led me to having opportunities to play with the first team.
How often do you train and what is a typical session?
I train every Tuesday with the Derby County first team. A typical session involves a warm up and stretches, passing/possession drills and a game. On a Thursday I train with the U18's team and weekends I play a game either with the U18's or first team.
What is your favourite subject at school?
Maths.
Your in Year 11 now, how difficult is it to balance Football with school work?
Its ok. My school (Shirebrook Academy) are very supportive and I have been able to catch up with work that I have missed due to attending matches/tournaments.
What aspects of your game would you like to improve?
I would like to improve my heading, passing and work on my overall strength.
What do your school friends think about you playing for England?
They are all really supportive and are over the moon for me.
Tell us your plans for 2012?
I'm striving to be a first team regular with DCFC, so the more games I can play for them the better. I also want to continue to move up the ranks with the England Team.
If you could interview any Football player in the world who would it be and why?
I would like to interview Thierry Henry, he is my idol.
You have been hitting the headlines/tv screens lately, how has your life changed over the last few months?
It has been a bit chaotic, lots of people have been wanting to talk to me. I don't want a fuss, I just want to live a normal life and be me. My family, friends and girlfriend help to keep things as normal as they can be.
Which team do you support?
Arsenal.
What is your proudest moment to date?
Playing for the England U16's in the Victory Shield match against Northern Ireland at Chesterfield's B2Net Stadium, back in October. It was great to perform and score two goals in front of a good crowd. It meant a lot to me having the support of my teachers and other students as well as hundreds of other people from Shirebrook and the local area.
Where do you hope to be in 5 years time?
Playing for Arsenal.
Has any individual/coach particularly supported/advised you?
Darren Wassell has been a big support. He is the Academy Youth Team Manager.
Who inspires you?
My girlfriend.
What do you like to do when you are not training/playing football?
I like to chill out with my mates.
What advice would you give a child who wanted to start playing football?
Keep out of trouble, train hard even when things don't go your way and you will succeed.
