Sports Awards
The top sportspeople from across Bolsover District have been honoured for their talent and commitment at the glitzy Bolsover District Annual Sports Awards ceremony which took place on Friday 23rd September 2011.
The glamour normally reserved for film stars came to Shirebrook as around two-hundred and fifty people packed into Kissingate Leisure Centre to celebrate the achievements of top sportspeople and teams from across the District over the past twelve months.
In addition to the wide range of winners who have dedicated their life to sport or achieved greatness, the evening, sponsored by Sports Direct, also helped to celebrate the diversity of sporting activities and clubs from across the District.
In addition to the awards, the audience were also treated to some wonderful sporting demonstrations. First up was the Tibshelf Gymnastics Group who provided an action packed display of tumbles, rolls and dance to the Jungle Book’s Bare Necessities and Chris Brown’s Yeah Yeah Yeah.
Next up was Laurisa Robson, a young 17-year old Sports Leader who gave the audience an insight into her experience of being an F.A. Leader in Trinidad and Tobago. She explained how she was selected as one of only 4 leaders from England to be chosen to coach other young leaders and local children and also explained how the experience has helped her develop her skills and techniques as a coach.
The British Karate and Kickboxing Association opened the second half and introduced the audience to the finer points of martial arts showcasing a team kata and self defence. In addition, Head Coach Dave Cartawick also demonstrated speed breaking in preparation for his world record attempt next year.

- Young Leader of the Year sponsored by M.J.M. Associates – 10 young people were recognised with this award – Adam Bailey, Jake Harrison, James Cook, Abbie Robinson, Ryan Parnham, Natalie Booth, Robert Martin, Ryan Murphy, Kyle Barton and Laurisa Robson.
- Club of the Year sponsored by Explore Manufacturing – Shirebrook Rangers Football Club
- Junior Team of the Year sponsored by Dusty Miller Inn & Restaurant – South Normanton Colts Football Club
- Junior Sportsman of the Year sponsored by Computer & Laptop Sales Limited – Mason Bennett
- Junior Sportswoman of the Year sponsored by CB Nutrition – Sophie Baggaley
- Junior Disabled Sportsperson of the Year sponsored by ECS Engineering Services Limited – Jarod Collier
- Disabled Sportsperson of the Year sponsored by Elese Fitness Centre – Jon Hall
- Sportsperson of the Year sponsored by East Midlands Designer Outlet – Ashley Clipston

Lawrence has been the club secretary since 1993, representing the club at various league meetings. Elaine takes on the responsibility of registering players and organises the clubs annual presentation evening, as well as been the tresurer. |
| Rob Platts | Community Coach | Blackwell & District Young Striders Athletic Club (BADY's) | Rob is the Head Coach at BADY's and has been since the club formed 6 years ago. Rob has coached a number of athletes to county, regional and national levels in a range of disciplines including shot, 100m and 800 m. |
| Adam Bailey | Young Leader | Shirebrook Rangers Football Club | Adam is a Level 1 coach and coaches the U10 team at Shirebrook Rangers Football Club. This year saw the team win the Division 2 title by 9 points in their first season, only losing 2 games. |
| Jake Harrison | Young Leader | Shirebrook Rangers Football Club | Jake also helps to coach the Shirebrook Rangers U10's team. During the last season the team reached the knockout cup, where they finished runners up. |

| Abbie Robinson | Young Leader | Former Heritage High School Student | Last year saw Abbie selected to be one of the Gold Ambassadors for the Bolsover District. She supported a range of activities during lunch times at Heritage as well as delivering additional activities at Whitwell Primary School. |
| Ryan Parnham | Young Leader | Former Stubbin Wood School Student | Ryan successfully completed the Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership and supported younger students at his school to participate in various activities including Boccia and Poly Bat. |
| Natalie Booth | Young Leader | Frederick Gent School | Natalie is an Adistar Ambassador and has supported a range of primary and secondary festivals and competitions. She completed a Rounders qualification and has supported sessions in local primary schools. |
| Robert Martin | Young Leader | Tibshelf Community School/St Mary's Catholic High School | Robert enjoys coaching Martial Arts disciplines such as Ju Jitsu and Kobudo. During the last year Robert has set up courses at both Tibshelf and St Mary's. He is a 2nd Dan in Kobudo and a 1st Dan in Ju Jitsu. |
| Ryan Murphy | Young Leader | Former Stubbin Wood School Student | Ryan successfully completed the Level 1 Award & Sportsability training. During lessons he supported with various activities including Sitting Volleyball and Boccia. |
| Kyle Barton | Young Leader | Former Stubbin Wood School Student | As part of his studies Kyle successfully passed the Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership. He supported younger students to access a range of activities including Kurling and Sportshall Athletics. |
| Laurisa Robson | Young Leader | Netherthorpe School Student | Laurisa was one of 4 young leaders from England to be selected from 3500 people to coach Football for the FA in Trinidad and Tobago as part of their Football Futures Programme. Since returning from her trip she has been offered a schlorship and has also represented Bolsover District and Derbyshire at the National Football Futures Camp. |
| Shirebrook Rangers Football Club | Club | Shirebrook Rangers Football Club | Last year saw the club awarded the FA's Charter Standard Community Club status, the only club of its kind within the district. SRFC are now an official feeder club to Chesterfield Football Club. The club have also been awarded the FA's Community Club of the Year, beating over 400 clubs across the county. |
| South Normanton Colts Football Club | Junior Team | South Normanton Colts Football Club | The club has had another successful campaign. The U14's team won the Chad Division 1 league and also won the knock out cup. The club have now won the league and cup double three years in a row. |
| Mason Bennett | Junior Sportsman | Derby County Football Club Centre of Excellence/England U17's/U16's | Mason plays in the U16 team and was awarded the academy's player of the year for the 2010-11 season. Last October he made his senior debut as a substitute for the reserves team, making him the youngest debutant in the clubs history. Mason represented the England U17's team in the Nordic tournament during the summer and has been called up to the England U16's team to play Northern Ireland at the B2 Net Stadium on 12th October. |
| Sophie Baggaley | Junior Sportswoman | Derby County Football Club Centre of Excellence U15's | Sophie plays in the U14 team and picked up her 2nd England cap where she was chosen as the first goal keeper to play against Holland. Sophie was also chosen to attend an England U17's camp earlier this year. |
| Jarod Collier | Junior Disabled Sportsperson | Shirebrook Rangers Football Club | Jarod has played for Shirebrook Rangers Football Club for 3 seasons. He was part of the team that won the Mansfield Youth League Supplmentary Cup and was named the clubs player of the year for 2010-11 season. |
| Jon Hall | Disabled Sportsperson | Wolverhampton Rhinos/Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Team | Jon was a member of the Great Britain's Wheelcahir Baksetball Team which competed at the Paralympic World Cup, the team won a bronze medal. Jon also plays for Wolverhampton Rhino's, the team won the RGK Super League during 2010-11 season. |
| Ashley Clipston | Sportsperson | Alfreton Indoor Bowls Club/England U25's | This year has seen Ashley represent England in the U25's team. Ashley won the English Bowling Association's national indoor champions of champions tournament. On an International level he competed in the world indoor bowls council event in the singles tournament where he reached the quarter final stage. |
In addition, 12 year old Jack Griffiths was presented with a separate achievement award in recognition of his performances at National and International levels. The Bolsover Karate and Kickboxer has been competing for 4 years as an extreme forms competitor. He has won numerous National, European and World titles.
The awards are aimed at the voluntary sector across Bolsover District as a way of recognising what they have achieved over the past twelve months. The winners will now feed into county, regional and national sports award events.

Derbyshire Sports Awards
The Derbyshire Sports Awards took place on Friday 11th November 2011 at the Roundhouse in Derby. The evening saw trophies awarded to the county's best and brightest sporting stars, coaches and volunteers. Bolsover District were well represented with 4 individuals and 1 team being selected as finalists.
They were:
Mason Bennett, Winner of the International Golf Development Junior Sportsman Award- Jack Griffiths, Runner Up in the International Golf Development Junior Sportsman Award
Laurisa Robson, Winner of the Derbyshire County Council Young Sports Leader/Young Coach of the Year Award- Jon Hall, Runner Up in the University of Derby Disabled Sportsperson of the Year Award
Shirebrook Rangers Football Club, Winners of the Cooper Parry Club of the Year Award
