Do you know the energy rating of your property?

Landlords and new tenants should be aware that properties require an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) prior to the start of a new tenancy. The landlord must give a copy of this certificate free of charge. The EPC must be produced by an accredited assessor & shows two things:The estimated running cost of the property & also the estimated carbon emissions from the from the property. Each rating is shown on a scale of A - G, similar to the rating system used for electrical appliances. Additionally the rating should be accompanied by a recommendation report detailing how to improve the property's energy efficiency. Each EPC for the domestic rental sector should last for roughly ten years, althoughlandlords are encouraged to update them more often if they refurbish a property & upgraded it's thermal efficiency.
