Petitions Scheme

It's never been easier to contact us and make your voice heard or have your say on a local issue.

In line with new government guidleines we have set up our very own Document iconpetitions scheme and PDF icon guidance. Under these new rules the number of signatures required to trigger a petition is just under 1% of the population of Bolsover district (74,300 based upon 2008 mid-term estimates) - that means you only need 700 signatures. Further details are available on the PDF icon Notice of Verification Number.

Anyone who lives, works or studies in the Bolsover Area - including under 18's - can organise or sign a petition and submit it to us.

Under the new rules, issues which attract a petition of 700 signatures or more could be debated by the Council.

Depending on the size of your petition, we may also:

  • Take the action requested in the petition
  • Hold an inquiry or public meeting about the issue
  • Carry out research or public consultation about the issue

We welcome petitions and recognise that petitions are one way in which people can let us know their concerns. All petitions sent or presented to us will receive an acknowledgement from us within 10 working days of receipt. This acknowledgement will set out what we plan to do with the petition. We will treat something as a petition if it is identified as being a petition, or if it seems to us that it is intended to be a petition.

E-Petitions

We have now launched an e-petition facility that will allow you to create or sign up to petitions on-line.  The e-petition must follow the same guidelines outlined above and will be dealt with in the same way.

Current Petitions

Proposed Morrisons Development

We have received a PDF icon petition regarding the Proposed Morrison's Development.  The petition document requests that 'current development plans (Morrison's) for Sherwood Lodge, be scrapped.  That Sherwood lodge be converted into a Leisure Centre if Bolsover District Council relocates'.

The petition will be presented to Council on 20th June 2012.

Closure of Toilets - Cavendish Walk, Bolsover

We have received a PDF icon petition against the closure of the toilets on Cavendish Walk, Bolsover.  The petition requests 'that the public toilets in Cavendish Walk, Bolsover, remain in use as public toilets rather than being closed or redeveloped into a retail unit.  Public toilets are an essential service and should not be cut'

The petition was discussed at the meeting of the Council on 21st September 2011 and the original decision to close toilets stands.
