National Benchmarking Service
The National Benchmarking Service (NBS) is a partnership approach to providing critical data on the performance of leisure facilities.
The partnership brings together the expertise of Sport Industry Research Centre (SIRC) at Sheffield Hallam University, Ipsos MORI and pmpgenesis to work on behalf of Sport England and provide a seamless, rigorous and valuable collection and analysis of participation, financial and customer satisfaction data.
In 2008 Creswell Leisure Centre was chosen as the East Midlands Everyday Swim site by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA).
The facility received £30k in funding to refurbish the changing facilities and design and implement a new marketing and promotional plan to increase swimming participation in the district.
The national benchmarking service (NBS) was recruited by the ASA to complete a pre Everyday
Swim survey on the facilities users. The NBS survey looked at three main areas and Creswell’s first set of results scored the facility in the top six nationally for customer access and customer
performance.
The Everyday Swim project ended in March 2009 and the findings from the post NBS survey revealed Creswell had increased swimming participation from 11.9% to 14.8%. This put us in top quartile of 354 local authorities nationally (23rd to be exact) for swimming participation.
Representatives from the leisure centre attended the NBS conference held at Bletchley Leisure Centre, Milton Keynes on the 11th February 2010 and were panellists in the afternoon sessions as conference participants asked questions regarding the facilities success.
