Motor Salvage Operator
Under the Motor Salvage Operators Regulations 2002 and the Vehicle (Crime) Act 2001, anyone wishing to operate a
motor salvage business will need to be licensed. Any applicant will also need to fill in a
Police Enquiry form
This would include anyone who:
- wholly or partly recovers for re-use or sale of salvageable part from motor vehicles
- wholly or mainly purchases written-off vehicles and their subsequent repair/re-sale
Upon receipt of an application, we must be satisfied that the applicant is a fit and proper person to carry out such a business.
If we are satisfied a licence will be granted for a period of three years. This licence will need to be renewed prior to expiration date of the premises licence.
From 1st April 2012 a new licence will be £67.00.
In deciding if a person is fit and proper, we shall have regarding any convictions in particular:
- aggravated vehicle taking taking a motor vehicle without consent
- convictions of offences under part 1 of the Vehicle Crimes Act 2001
- equipped to steal or take a motor vehicle handling stolen goods
- interference with a motor vehicle
- theft or attempted theft of or from a motor vehicle
