Coaches and volunteers are the lifeblood of sport, whether it is nationally or at grass roots level. That's why we do everything we can to help people gain the relevant and necessary qualifications to make sure they can deliver organised, safe, fun, progressive and inclusive sessions to participants in our sports and community clubs.

Coach Education & Leadership Courses

Do you want a career in the Leisure Industry or just want to help out at your local community or sports club? If so, we have a number of courses available to help you achieve this goal.

Alternatively, if you are from a local Parish Council, community group, college or school and would like a course to be delivered for your students/within your community, then please contact us so we can arrange this for you.

Introduction to STEP - The purpose of this is to increase the quantity, quality and diversity of people involved in volunteering and leadership. It enables community clubs to develop people as coaches/leaders and deploy them as active volunteers.  The STEP programme (990kb) for 2016/17 is now available and for more information please telephone 01246 242363.

Sports Leaders UK Awards & Qualifications
Members of our Sports Development Team are qualified to tutor various Sports Leaders UK nationally recognised qualifications and awards, these include:

 Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership 13+
The Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership is a nationally recognised qualification that enables successful learners to lead groups of people in sport/activity, under indirect supervision.

The qualification teaches generic leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through the medium of sport.Candidates complete 7 units of work which includes topics on session planning, communication, improving fitness and delivering competitions. After completing all units individuals are required to complete 10 hours of voluntary leadership in their communities, under the supervision of another member of staff such as a Head Coach, Sports Development Officer or Youth Worker.

 Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership 12+
The Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership provides the ideal starting point for learners aged 12 years and over who wish to develop their leadership skills, whilst under the direct supervision of their Tutor/Assessor or other suitably qualified adult.The syllabus is designed to develop generic leadership skills that can be applied to a variety of sports and/or recreational situations as well as contributing to the personal development of the learner. We can support the delivery and assessment of these courses within the secondary schools across Bolsover District.

 I Can Lead Award 12+

A fun practical course that can be completed in class, on the sports field or as an after school activity.I Can Lead has been designed as an introduction to leadership that will give learners the knowledge and skills to assist in leading basic sports/activity sessions under direct supervision.

 Go Lead Award 16+
Go Lead has been designed as an introduction to leadership that will give learners:

  • A new understanding of how they can use leadership skills in their day-to-day work or college lives.

  • The knowledge, skills and competencies to lead basic physical activity sessions under direct supervision.

 Young Leader Award 11+
The Young Leader Award is a great introduction into leadership, giving pupils and students knowledge of how to organise and lead small games and activities that can be used as part of uniformed organisation, community club or sports club sessions.

The Young Leader Award aims to help learners develop leadership skills such as organisation, communication and teamwork, as well as helping to build confidence and self-esteem as they take on responsibility of leading their peers and younger children.
