Council garages are available to rent in several areas of the District. When you apply for a garage we will add your name to the waiting list for that site - waiting lists are managed on a first come, first served basis however and priority is given to existing Council tenants. Applicants must be aged 18 or over. If you are not a council tenant, VAT is payable on the garage rent.

Garages are available in the following areas:

  • Newton
  • Blackwell
  • Pinxton
  • South Normanton
  • Tibshelf
  • Shuttlewood
  • Bolsover
  • Glapwell
  • Shirebrook
  • Barlborough
  • Clowne

We are currently offering a discount of £2.80 per week for anyone who pays there rent by direct debit. Direct debit forms (318kb) are available at any of our Contact Centres.

Bolsover District Council Tenant £11.75
Bolsover District Council tenant paying by Direct Debit

£8.87

Non-Bolsover District Council tenant (Council rate plus VAT) £14.10
Non-Bolsover District Council tenant paying by Direct Debit £10.64

Ending a garage tenancy

You must give one clear weeks' notice in writing, which starts on a Monday. Remember, if garage keys are not returned on the date they are due, rent will continue to be charged to you until the keys are received. If the keys are not returned at all you may be charged for the cost of changing the locks. Please make sure you do not leave any rubbish in the garage or you may be charged for the cost of removing it.

If you rent a garage and move home to a different Council property, the garage tenancy will be kept in your name and we will continue to charge you garage rent unless you give us written notice and return the keys.

We have a total of 37 car parks across the District and they are all free of charge. We feel that by not charging it encourages people to use our town and village centres to do their shopping and undertake their business, which in turn helps the local economy. There are no time restrictions on any of our car parks, but vehicles must park within the marked bays.

We inspect our car parks four times per year, usually in March, June, September and December, to look for any wear and tear, or to see if any maintainance is required. If you come across a problem at one of our car parks, whether this be a repair, litter, vandalism, graffiti or any other issue please telephone contact us immediately so we can inspect the problem and take the neccessary action as soon as possible.

Derbyshire County Council, through ParkSmarter are responsibile for enforcing parking restrictions on the streets of the Bolsover District through their Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs). This is known as Civil Parking Enforcement (CPE) and they deal with nuisance, illegal and dangerous parking.

Residential parking permits and the Blue Badge Scheme are administered by Derbyshire County Council.

Our qualified, experienced technicians can carry out a full MOT test or service on private or commercial vehicles. And because they are not in the business of fixing cars you can be sure to get an honest, unbiased test carried out to the highest standards.

A test costs £40 for cars (Class 4) and £45 for light commercial vehicles over 3,000kg (Classes 5 and 7). If your vehicle fails the test, they will re-test this free of charge if it is within 10 working days, otherwise it will cost you the test fee again.

They are a fully authorised VOSA testing station (test station number V107514). The council’s specialist mechanics ensure vehicles are inspected to the highest standards and issued with an MOT certificate (if the vehicle meets all the appropriate checks) with as little hassle as possible.

The MOT and Servicing station is open from 7am-3.30pm Monday to Thursday and 7am to 3pm on Friday’s. For more information or to book an MOT please telephone 01246 593043.
