Balanceability - Mini Bikers

Congratulations to children who successfully completed the Level 2 course on 16th November 2014.  Our next Level 1 course will start in January at Clowne Sports Centre from Wednesday 7th January through to 11th February 2015 for 4-5pm.  To pre register your interest please call 01246 242364.

All parents/guardians whose child/ren completed courses in 2014 said they would recommend sessions to a family/friend with young children.

Did you know that 43% of children cannot ride a bike by the age of 6?  (MORI 2011).

Balanceability is the UK's first and only progressive accredited 'learn to cycle' programme for children between 3 and 6 years.  Each session is constructed around games, challenges and new experiences using ergonomic balance bikes providing fun and physical activity for under 6's.  Children will be completing the Balanceability Level 1 course.  Please be aware that it is likely that after six weeks at Level 1 your child will not be able to ride a bike.  The Level 1 course feeds into the Level 2 course, which revolves around balance and core strength.  After the Level 2 course, children should be able to ride on their own without stabilisers.  Bikes and helmets are provided as well as medals and certificates on completion of the course.  Please be aware that from week 3 of the Level 2 course children are asked to bring along their own bike to ride.

Please ensure your child wears suitable clothing (no skirts or baggy shorts/trousers as they can get caught in the bike) as well as appropriate footwear (no open toe shoes or Crocs).

Sessions are led by DBS checked, first aid trained and qualified Balanceability instructors.

What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 Balanceability courses?

Level 1

Fundamental movement patterns, gross motor skills and dynamic balance are incorporated along with an introduction to the balance bike.  Children learn how to pick up, manoeuvre, mount and dismount their bikes and then learn the skills to ride a balance bike safely.  The aim of the Level 1 course is to create the confidence to glide a balance bike with their feet off the ground and be able to stop in a controlled manner.

To secure a place please call 01246 242364 or complete an application form (527kb).

Level 2

The course continues the development of gross motor skills, dynamic balance and co-ordination.  The main goal is to improve the child's gliding, stopping, braking and turning skills to enable them to ride solo on a pedal bike safely and confidently.  The art of riding a bicycle is dependent upon a good understanding and experience of balance and control and bringing all the new skills together.  Please be aware that from week 3 of the Level 2 course children are asked to bring along their own bike to ride.

To secure a place please call 01246 242364 or complete an application form (527kb).
