We opted to be a constituent member of the proposed North Midlands Combined Authority and a non constituent member of the Sheffield City Region (SCR) Combined Authority. This agreement was reached on 2 March 2016
The devolution deal will see controls over a fund estimated to be around £30million per year over 30 years handed over to the region in exchange for accepting a Mayor to be elected in May 2017. The funding is based upon a number of themes including skills, apprenticeships, employment, housing and planning, transport, business support, trade and investment.
The Mayor would not impact in any way on our existing powers but would have oversight of the new powers devolved from the Government and would campaign on behalf of the area for greater devolution in the future.
Staying as a non constituent member of the Sheffield City Region will enable us to continue our joint working. The Council has already, and continues to, work well with neighbouring authorities to bring about many benefits to the area including Growth Hub Funding packages, supporting the roll out of the Derbyshire Broadband initiative, securing additional employment land with Enterprise Zone status for Markham Vale and improvements to the A61 corridor.
Although the legislation enables local councils to make a choice on membership status, the final decision on the establishment of a Combined Authority and the Devolution Deal is made by the Secretary of State, who will consider if this improves the exercise of statutory functions across the proposed North Midlands CA area and the SCR CA area.

The strategic allicance was formed in April 2011 between Bolsover District Council and North East Derbyshire District Council. The aim was to cut costs, harmonise the workplace and provide joint services for both areas, utilising both districts to better serve our residents and customers.
A joint Chief Executive was appointed, and in turn appointed a strategic alliance management team.

The Bolsover Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) was formed in 2001. It is a partnership that brings together the main service providers and agencies from across Bolsover District in an effort to drive local regeneration and service improvement. This means that the public, private, community and voluntary sectors can work together for the benefit of the District.
LSP's are required to:
- Develop and deliver a Sustainable Community Strategy to secure more jobs, better education, improved health, reduced crime, and better housing, narrowing the gap between deprived neighbourhoods and the rest
- Keep track of progress and keep it up-to-date
- Provide a forum through which providers of public services (local authorities, the police, health services, central government agencies, and voluntary bodies) work effectively together to meet local needs and priorities.
The Bolsover Partnership has produced its latest annual report (1.66MB) for 2015/16 that highlights what they have achieved and been involved in for the past year.
