Historic Environment Scheme

We recognise the vital importance of the historic environment and its contribution to place making, pride of local people, the tourism industry and the attractiveness of the area to investment and regeneration.

To protect the district's historic environment and to explain what areas of work we will prioritise, we have prepared a Historic Environment Scheme to cover the period 2008-2012 and this can viewed below:
Since the adoption of the Historic Environment Scheme in February 2008, progress of its implementation is reviewed from time to time. The latest version of the PDF iconHistoric Environment Scheme Work Programme was approved by the Planning Committee at its meeting on the 21st July 2010 and this sets out the current priorities and timetable for public involvement.
The Historic Environment Scheme also sets outs the list of Conservation Areas, the list of Buildings at Risk and the procedure for preparing conservation area appraisals and management plans.
