Health 4 life

Health 4 Life is an initiative that has been created as a means of increasing self esteem and confidence, as well as developing an interest in healthy lifestyles in young people, predominately targeting pupils in year7/8.

The vision is that these children and their families across the district will have access to support, which will enable them to make positive lifestyle choices.

The programme lasts for 12 weeks and the emphasis throughout is about trying new things. Each session has a healthy lifestyle/citizenship message and parents/carers are encouraged to become involved and support their children. Specific lesson plans have been developed to complement the schools ‘Personal, Social and Health Education’ curriculum, the green paper ‘Every Child Matters’ and School Activity and Obesity Programmes in relationship to the National institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines.

The course consists of:

  • 4 healthy eating sessions
  • 4 self esteem building sessions
  • 4 physical activity sessions

The Health 4 Life programme has been commissioned by Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust and is part of a County Wide Initiative called the Family Lifestyle Intervention Programme (FLIP).

Any child/family identified through Health 4 Life as requiring additional support can be referred onto appropriate services.
