Council Garages

Council garages are available to rent in several areas of the district. The Tenancy Management Officers are responsible for the allocation of garage tenancies and will supply an PDF icon application form on request.

When you apply for a garage we will add your name to the waiting list for that site - waiting lists are managed on a first come, first served basis however prioirty is given to existing Council tenants.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over. If you are not a council tenant, VAT is payable on the garage rent

  • Bolsover
  • Glapwell
  • Shirebrook
  • Barlborough
  • Clowne
  • Creswell
  • Hodthorpe
  • Whitwell

Rent Charges

We have the right to change the rent at any time, but generally we review our charges once a year. If we are going to change the rent we will give tenants four week's notice. Rent on Council garages are payable weekly in advance.

We are currently offering a discount of £1.50 per week for anyone who pays there rent by direct debit. PDF icon Direct debit forms are available at any of our Contact Centres.

Ending a garage tenancy

You must give one clear weeks' notice in writing, which starts on a Monday. Remember, if garage keys are not returned on the date they are due, rent will continue to be charged to you until the keys are received. If the keys are not returned at all you may be charged for the cost of changing the locks.

Please make sure you do not leave any rubbish in the garage or you may be charged for the cost of removing it.

If you rent a garage and move home to a different Council property, the garage tenancy will be kept in your name and we will continue to charge you garage rent unless you give us written notice and return the keys.
