Expanding Business On Road To Success In Bolsover

Our conversion of the public toilets in Bolsover town into a brand new retail unit has paid off with the recent letting to Hilltop Cars, creating five new jobs in the process.Pictured is (left to right) Mark Bedford and Roger Ward (joint owners of Hilltop cars) and Councillor Alan Tomlinson, Cabinet Member for Regeneration outside the new Hilltop Cars taxi rank in Bolsover.

The new retail unit complements the features of the Cavendish Walk area and is now a brand new taxi rank and waiting area.

Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Councillor Alan Tomlinson said, “This is great news and proves that we were right. Certain individuals and traders said we would never let these premises - well we have and we have replaced what was becoming a health hazard with a brand new retail unit to an expanding business helping to create five new jobs. Having a taxi rank in this area will encourage more people into the town and I must congratulate Hilltop Cars in having the foresight to invest in the town during this time of change.”

The old public toilets cost in excess of £18,000 per year to clean and maintain, and were becoming a risk to the public after needles and other paraphernalia were constantly being found in there. Cleaner and more hygienic public toilets are available in the adjacent council offices which provide a much better facility to the town’s residents.

Since occupying the new unit of prime retail space the business has grown from one minibus vehicle to providing an extra four new cars and employing an extra five members of staff, with more job opportunities likely to follow in the near future.

Roger Ward, Business Owner of Hilltop Cars said, “This unit is in ideal spot for us, in the town centre and with taxi bays right outside on our doorstep. Relocating the business from Clay Cross to Bolsover has provided us with an excellent opportunity to expand and what with the additional number of customers if the proposed new Morrisons store gets approved, we saw a great business opportunity and have taken a gamble. We would like to thank the Council for all their help and assistance in making sure our move was done as smoothly and as quickly as possible in to what is an excellent retail unit.”
