The application form plays a key part in our decision whether or not to invite you for an interview, so it is important that you complete it as fully and as accurately as possible.
We will not make assumptions about you or your abilities, so it is therefore, your chance to tell us why you think you are the most suitable candidate for the post which you are applying for.
Completing the application form
Before completing the application form (250kb) you are advised to carefully read the requirements of the Person Specification and the contents of the Job Description. It is not enough to simply state that you meet the criteria, you must demonstrate to us that you have the right skills, knowledge and experience necessary to do the job. So think very carefully about what you put on your application form.
A standard application form is provided to ensure that all applicants have the same opportunity of providing information about themselves. This enables us to compare each application on its merits and also allows the same process to be used.
Application forms can be submitted and completed on-line. If you are submitting an 'off-line' application form and find there is insufficient space for your needs please use a continuation sheet. If you are handwriting your application form please write in black ink to facilitate photocopying. Remember your application form is our window to initially assess you.
All the information you provide on the application form is protected by the Data Protection Act, and is the only information we will use to shortlist applications. Once the application process has been completed, we will store this information for six months, after which it will be destroyed. If you are the successful applicant, some of the information you provide us may be transferred from your application and used on your personnel record.
Under the Data Protection Act you have the right to make a ‘subject access request’ with regard to interview notes. This request must be in writing and addressed to the Assistant Director of Human Resources and Payroll. The Authority will respond to your request within 40 calendar days. We will not disclose any information outside of the Council.
Shortlisting and the Interview Process
All application forms received by the closing date will be reviewed against the essential and desirable elements of the specification. This information is plotted on a 'matrix' for comparability and future reference purposes. It is on the basis of this information that applicants are long listed and then subsequently shortlisted. Applicants who meet the essential criteria and have a disability will be guaranteed an interview. Invitations to interview will be sent to the e-mail address listed on your aplication form if provided.
