Club Development in Bolsover District

Community sports clubs are at the heart of the British sporting infrastructure.  We are keen to work with a variety of community sports clubs to help ensure that we have high quality community sport provision across the district in a variety of sports.

North Derbyshire Sport & Physical Activity Directory

The North Derbyshire Sport & Physical Activity Directory launched in January 2012 and was jointly produced by Bolsover District Council, Chesterfield Borough Council and North East Derbyshire District Council.  The directory provides an A-Z list of sports clubs and physical activity opportunities within North Derbyshire, ranging from walking, jogging and cycling to teams sports and activities in leisure centres.  For more information check out the PDF icon North Derbyshire Sport & Physical Activity Directory

Clubmark

Clubmark is a national cross sports quality accreditation scheme for clubs. It is built around a set of core criteria which ensure that accredited clubs operate to a set of consistent, accepted and adopted minimum operating standards.

Sport England recognises and values the commitment made by sports clubs to develop high quality, welcoming environments for young participants. The development of clubs that encourage young people to take-up sport, improve their talents and give them the option to initiate and maintain life-long participation in sport is an essential part of our work to support the sporting infrastructure in England.

Clubmark is endorsed by all the main sporting, youth and education agencies involved in the delivery of sporting opportunities for young people as the accreditation scheme for clubs with quality assured junior sections.

A club is accredited via either its licensed National Governing Body (NGB) or County Sports Partnership (CSP). It must, therefore, be affiliated to the relevant Sport England recognised NGB in order to be accredited.

Chance to Shine Programme

Bolsover District Council, Bolsover District SSP and 3 of the districts cricket clubs have committed to be part of Derbyshire Cricket Boards 2013 community programme, Chance to Shine.  An initial financial commitment from all involved levered in additional coaching delivery and support from the DCB's coaches.  The programme of delivery and subsequent development opportunities overtakes last years activities to become the biggest ever programme of development opportunities that the district has seen.

All the districts Primary schools will take part in the Chance to Shine Programme and the districts Secondary schools have the opportunity to take part in the 'new' Chance to Compete activities.  The cricket clubs involved are Glapwell, Shirebrook and Whitwell.  If you are interested in playing Cricket and joining one of the districts clubs please contact Wayne Hatton on 01246 242362.

District Sports Forum

The Sports Development Team have agreed to support the formation of a district sports forum following suggestions that there is now a need following the demise of local sports action groups and the rise in the number of sport specific development groups.

The district sports forum will provide a platform for single and minority sport clubs not catered for by sport specific groups, community groups, associations, uniformed groups, youth groups and agencies that intend to use sport as a tool for change.  It is intended that sport specific groups have a representative attend sports forum meetings.

The forum will:

  • Offer sports clubs development opportunities
  • Offer the opportunity for shared ideas, shared working and shared resources
  • Offer the opportunity to run complimentary programmes and activities
  • Offer the opportunity for discussion
  • Offer the opportunity to attract funding to communities/clubs
  • Help solve problems and avoid duplication
  • Help prioritise and be mutually beneficial

The next meeting is on 29th May at 6pm and will be followed by a ScUK Supporting Coaches workshop.  Individuals and clubs are asked to pre book places by either calling or emailing Wayne Hatton on 01246 242362 or wayne.hatton@bolsover.gov.uk
