CCTV
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras are used for a variety of purposes and are an effective way of reducing crime and protecting public safety. CCTV is not the absolute answer to preventing or detecting crime, but can be a useful tool in providing evidence and supplementing the work of the Police and the Council.
Are there any CCTV cameras in Bolsover District?
Yes, we have CCTV cameras located in the following towns and villages - Bolsover, Shirebrook, South Normanton and Creswell. These have been provided through various grant schemes.
Who monitors the CCTV cameras?
The CCTV cameras send digital pictures via radio waves to monitoring stations and recorders. Monitoring of these cameras on behalf of the Council is carried out by the private company who provide the CCTV system. All monitoring of the CCTV system is regulated and tracked to ensure all legislation and regulations are strictly complied with.
What do you use the cameras for?
Our cameras have been very useful in providing evidence in crime and disorder related situations.
What rules are in place to protect me from CCTV?
We operate under a stringent code of conduct for all CCTV operations, covering what the camera sees initially, to what can be downloaded and by whom and for what reason.
Can I view footage?
Viewing of CCTV images is strictly controlled and monitored. No one can access the cameras without proper authorisation, this includes the Police and Council officers.
If you believe your image has been captured by our CCTV, you can request this by completing the
CCTV Subject Access Request Form and providing appropriate proof of identity, for which a fee will be payable. The footage may be edited to avoid releasing third party data. We only keep the footage for a period of 28 days.
