Skills Support for the Workforce
The programme aims to improve the skills of employees in small or medium sized businesses and is fully funded by the European Social Fund. Individuals can update their skills and knowledge whilst employers can plug their skills gaps at no extra costs.
To be eligible employees must be over 19 years old and have a contract of employment for a minimum of eight hours and for which they are paid, and employers must have no more than 250 employees and be located in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
Apprenticeship Grants for Employers (AGE 16 to 24) – the programme has already helped thousands of employers to grow their business by employing an apprentice but time is running out, as the programme is closing at the end of December 2014.
The Grant for Employers aims to support businesses who would not be in a position to do so, to recruit individuals aged 16 to 24 into employment through the Apprenticeship programme. The National Apprenticeship Service will provide AGE 16 – 24 to eligible employers in respect of qualifying apprentices, with an individual value of £1.500 (upto a maximum of ten grants in total for the lifetime of the programme). To be eligible employers must have less than 1,000 employees, who are new to apprenticeships or haven’t enrolled a new recruit or existing employee onto an apprenticeship programme in the previous 12 months.

INVEST to GROW
This programme is designed to support established private sector businesses to innovate, grow and create jobs. Grants or loans - according to the needs of the business - are available for around 30% of the cost of investment to help create long term sustainable job growth. The business has to find around 70% of the project cost. Minimum award size is £15k, so the minimum project cost is likely to be £50k. Maximum award size is £1m. £16m of Regional Growth Fund monies are available to businesses in the East Midlands. The programme is aimed at growth sectors such as Transport Equipment Manufacturing, Medicine/Bio-science, Construction, Food & Drink Manufacturing, Logistics, Low Carbon. Unlocking Business Investment
As of August 2014, the current round of this programme is fully committed but expressions of interest in the next round are welcomed pending further funding. Regional Growth Fund managed by the Sheffield City Region LEP. The purpose of the programme is to ‘unlock’ direct business investment, principally within SMEs, to create sustainable, private sector employment in the Sheffield City Region. Grants are available between £25,000 and £2,000,000. Awards between £25,000 and £99,999 will be processed through a sub-programme – which involves a shorter application form application form. For a grant between £25,000 and £99,999 – the expected minimum number of new jobs is 5, and the likely minimum total project value is £125,000. Unlocking Investment for Growth
Currently fully committed but expressions of interest are welcomed pending further funding. Supported by the Government’s Regional Growth Fund the D2N2 LEP is offering a grant scheme to help businesses in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire invest in capital projects that will create sustainable jobs. This scheme will be of interest to businesses with a substantial capital investment project that will create long term jobs but who can’t quite raise all the finance to purchase the necessary fixed assets. Funding for rural businesses - the BNED LEADER Local Action Group (LAG) has been awarded €1,713,000 of European Agricultural Fund For Rural Development (EAFRD) through the Rural Development Programme for England for the funding of rural projects in the local area. This represents a Sterling equivalent of approximately £1,370,000 (although this figure may alter in line with Euro exchange rates).
This fund is now open to applications.

The BNED LAG has considered both the Commission's priorities and the needs of the local area to produce a Local Development Strategy for Bolsover and North East Derbyshire. The LAG, in arriving at its decision, agreed that at least 80% of projects approved for funding will need to demonstrate that Jobs and Growth will be created.

Ready for Business Programme
National start up programme for areas heavily dependent on the public sector. Managed by NBV in the East Midlands. Initial stages include a FREE introductory one-day event organised by Barclays, which covers the fundamentals of setting up in business including financial forecasting, taxation/VAT, marketing and business planning; plus initial 1-2-1 discussions with a business adviser. Individuals who meet certain criteria will then be invited to participate in the next stage of the programme, costing the client £600 incl VAT. Bursaries may be available towards this cost. That stage includes: One-to-one assessment with an experienced, independent business adviser, with the production of an individual action plan tailored to the client's business idea; an intensive support programme, including guidance, advice and peer learning, leading to the development of a robust business plan; dedicated support in an application for external funding; ongoing support after business start-up. Creative England Business Loans
Creative England are supporting digital creative SMEs to finance business growth through the provision of interest-free loans via the Regional Growth Fund. Businesses based in the North, the Midlands and the South West of England will be able to apply for a loan of between £60,000 and £150,000 which is then repaid over 3 years. The loan repayments in the first year are minimal followed by 24 equal repayments over the final 2 years. The loan must be matched 50:50 with other finance, sourced by the company. A small arrangement fee of 5% of the loan value will be charged to cover assessment, due diligence, legal, and administration costs. All successful applicants will be obliged to repay any loan in full. The programme is interested in job creation and safeguarding vulnerable jobs. It provides grant funding for Derbyshire’s SME’s seeking to grow, collaborate, innovate and export.

Health & Safety
We undertake a wide range of duties designed to protect the health safety and welfare of people at work and those that visit places of work within our area.
This involves enforcing legal standards in a variety of workplaces such as shops, offices, leisure centres, hotels, warehouses and residential homes. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) based in Nottingham deals with higher risk businesses such as factories, mines, quarries and farms. Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerceare offering free health and safety advice as part of a project to help businesses in the region cope with regulations. The HSE have also launched a new Beware Asbestos website with information to help businesses be more aware of asbestos.
