Airports Advice and Information
Air travel can sometimes be stressful, so it is important to know what to expect when you go through the airport. Follow these guidelines to ensure you have a smoother journey.

Whether you are travelling for business or pleasure, it is always sensible to arrive at the airport in good time. Knowing what to expect and allowing yourself enough time can help to make your journey stress-free. As a general rule you should arrive:
- 3 hours before long-haul flights.
- 2 hours before European flights.
- 90 minutes before flights within the UK and Ireland.
Keep your passport and boarding pass to hand, you don't want to be wasting time going through your luggage.
Security
Increased security measures are in place at all UK airports. So its a good idea to leave plenty of time for security checks. All you baggage will need to be screened and you will be asked to pass through a security archway. You will be asked if you packed your luggage yourself and security staff will ask you for your:
- resealable bag of liquids - it will be screened separately from your hand baggage
- laptop, hairdryer or other large electrical items (will be screened separately)
- coat or jacket and your shoes

Departure Lounge
When you have passed through security you can take on board anything you buy from the shops in the departure lounge (sometimes called 'airside'). This includes gifts and food or drink for your journey.
If your goods are given to you in a special sealed bag, do not open it until you get to your final destination. Keep your receipt as you may be asked to show it later – if you transfer flights, for example.
