Adventure Sports Festival
Nearly four-hundred people enjoyed what the great outdoors had to offer as they attended our 5th Adventure Sports Festival.
The festival was held on Sunday 17th July 2011 at Pleasley Vale Outdoor Activity Centre and people were able to go rock climbing, abseiling, mountain biking and canoeing amongst other things.
Starting at 10am, participants took to the water and enjoyed a 45-minute canoeing experience, before getting back on terra firma and saddling up to tackle the hills and woodland surrounding Pleasley Vale on their mountain bikes. Those with a head for heights had the chance to scale the 30ft climbing wall, whilst the smaller participants also had the chance to scale the mini beast adventure (a small climbing wall).
Two new activities were also unveiled at this years Festival, including Body Zorbs, an inflatable ball that participants climbed into and then could run around and bump and bash into each other. Laser Tag (similar to paintballing), then allowed teams to pit their wits against each other in a large inflatable with hand-held infrared-emitting targeting devices, as they battled it out for supremacy.
As ever the three wheeled KMX Karts proved extremely popular as participants raced against each other around the circuit with running commentary.
For the more relaxed customer, they shot their way to success by trying out archery or tried to master the specially created electronic orienteering course. Participants also had the chance to meet the Limestone Journeys team and take part in their heritage and countryside activities including stone carving, wood lathing and willow crafts and find out what else they have planned for the next year.
The festival was organised by Bolsover District Council with support from the Limestone Journeys, Big Lottery Fund, Bolsover Community Safety Partnership, Bolsover Community Sport Network and Derbyshire County Council.
