Achievements 2010/2011
Bolsover Community Safety Partnership has developed and implemented many successful schemes that have impacted on the reduction in crime figures.
The following are some of the initiatives delivered in 2010/11 that have been funded by external funding streams including Home Office (HO), Derbyshire County Council (DCC) and Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) funding:
Serious Acquisitive Crime
Dwelling Burglary
- Safe & Secure Scheme – Target hardening provided for over 350 homes within the district
- Distraction burglary road show has been implemented in targeted areas
- DCC Handy Van Scheme has provided in excess of 500 security measures within the district
- Trusted Trader Scheme in place
- Distribution of “Doorstop Seller Beware” stickers
- Crime cracking events rolled out across the district with information packs distributed to attendees
- Free window and shed alarms distributed to vulnerable residents
- Deployment of Memo-cams to repeat victims of burglary
- Implementation of 5 new Neighbourhood Watch Schemes across the district
Vehicle Crime
- Park Mark status as been secured at three public car parks within the district
- Talking signs have been installed in public car parks to raise awareness of vehicle crime
- Free membership to Vehicle 25 Watch Scheme for owners of vehicles driven exclusively by people over 25 years
- Development of multi-agency group set up to tackle HGV crime along the M1 Corridor – erection of multi-agency information signage, implementation of ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) in hot spot areas, leaflet drops and crime prevention advice provided to HGV drivers
- Bike theft awareness campaign attaching warning labels to insecure cycles and motorbikes
Violent Crime
- Roll out of knife crime awareness project in secondary schools
- Overt body worn cameras supplied to Police and CAN Rangers to deter, detect and gather evidence
- Alcohol packs distributed to 1,000 students at Clowne College
- Secured and developed a district wide blue tooth messaging service
Domestic Violence
- Implementation of Domestic Violence Freedom programme
- Promotion of availability of Domestic Violence service within the district
Hate Crime
- Provision of re-deployable CCTV to victims
- Awareness raising of ‘Stop Hate’ campaign
Drugs and Alcohol
- Multi-agency implementation of B-Safe project engaging with young people to raise awareness of alcohol harm, confiscate alcohol, remove those under the influence of alcohol to a place of safety, undertake common assessment frameworks and refer to appropriate agencies
- Identify and address of top ten problem licensed premises in district
- Successful test purchase operations to identify and take action against licensed premises selling to underage drinkers
Anti-Social Behaviour
- ASB interventions to tackle persistent offenders
- Senior Parenting Practitioner delivering programmes on a voluntarily or by Parenting Contract or by order of the court by Parenting Order
- Provision of diversionary activities e.g. fishing and football initiatives, Extreme Wheels, Ozbox, Free Rides, Pleasley Vale Outdoor Activity Centre
- Multi-agency motor bike operations targeting nuisance motor bikes
- Evidence gathering with regular patrols of mobile CCTV Van
Fear of Crime/Perceptions
- Raised awareness of available services and work of the Partnership through crime cracking events and media campaign including local press, newsletters and web-sites
Environmental Improvements
- Multi-agency clean ups involving the local community at Shirebrook and Creswell
- Regular multi-agency site visits to target areas to identify clean up locations, engage with community to raise awareness and provide advice
- Identify derelict buildings and take multi-agency action to address
- Over 100 fixed penalty notices issues for litter and dog fouling offences
Other Crime/Cross Cutting Initiatives
- YES project delivered at Shirebrook to young people involved in or considered at risk of becoming involved in anti-social behaviour to improve school attendance and behaviour, improve self esteem, enhance confidence/communication skills and encourage them to aspire to a more positive future
- Over 30 Crime Cracking events delivered where 4,500 members of the community attended providing information and advice on community safety/crime prevention measures and distributing free Safe Cans, door chains, door viewers, property marking packs, purse bells, vehicle packs, lamp timers and personal alarms.
- Increased the number of fire safety prevention and protection initiatives that have been able to be delivered across the district.
- Visits to each primary and junior school delivering fire safety education to school years 2 and 6.
- Media campaign to inform/reassure community of work being undertaken by the Partnership
